Why it exists
Galaxyglot started as a way to learn Slovene vocabulary. Most apps for small languages either do not exist or treat them as an afterthought, with thin word lists and translations nobody checked. The goal was a course where every word is reviewed by a person, the structure is visible at a glance, and practice takes a few minutes a day instead of an hour.
How it works
The course is laid out as a map. Each topic (everyday phrases, food, travel, health, work and so on) is a solar system, each category inside it is a planet, and each planet has difficulty levels you unlock in order. The full course has 19 topics and 196 categories, about 2,674 words per language.
- Short drills. A drill is a handful of words, answered by picking the right translation or typing it yourself.
- Spaced repetition. Every answer updates a schedule for that word. Words you miss come back soon, words you know drift further apart, so reviews arrive just before you would forget them.
- Progress you can see. Finished categories light up on the map, and the stats page shows your daily activity, recent drills and the words you miss most.
Languages
Galaxyglot teaches vocabulary in Slovene, English, Spanish, German, Catalan, Czech, Hungarian, Russian, Ukrainian, Macedonian (Cyrillic and Latin script), Hindi and Tagalog, and the app itself can be used in any of them. You pick the language you know and the language you want to learn, in any combination.
Where the words come from
Every language shares the same list of concepts, so a word in one course lines up with the same word in every other. Translations are drafted with the help of dictionaries and machine translation, then reviewed by human curators in a dedicated console where they vote to approve, correct or flag each entry. Learners can report a wrong translation straight from a drill, and the report goes to the same review queue. You can browse the full word lists without an account.
