Using Galaxyglot
Is Galaxyglot free?
Yes. No word, level or language is ever locked behind a payment. A subscription only ever buys more room for mistakes, never more content, and the app is otherwise supported by advertising, which is kept to a minimum.
Do I need an account?
No. You can start as a guest straight from the home page. An account keeps your progress across devices, and the XP and streak you earned as a guest are carried over when you sign up. You can sign up with a username and password or with Google. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
Which languages can I learn?
Slovene, English, Spanish, German, Catalan, Czech, Hungarian, Russian, Ukrainian, Macedonian (Cyrillic and Latin script), Hindi and Tagalog, in any combination: you pick the language you know and the one you want to learn. The app itself can be used in any of them. New languages join the map as they are ready.
Can I see the words before I start?
Yes. The word lists show every topic and category of the course, with translations, and need no account.
How the course works
Why is it a galaxy?
The course is laid out as a map. Each topic is a solar system, each category inside it is a planet, and each planet has difficulty levels you unlock in order. Finished categories light up, so you can see at a glance how far you have come.
How does the review schedule work?
Galaxyglot uses spaced repetition. Every answer updates a schedule for that word: words you miss come back soon, words you know drift further apart, so reviews arrive just before you would forget them.
What does a drill look like?
A drill is a handful of words, answered by picking the right translation or typing it yourself. Every point is earned by answering, never by time spent in the app.
Translations
Who checks the translations?
Translations are drafted with the help of dictionaries and machine translation, then reviewed by human curators who vote to approve, correct or flag each entry.
I found a wrong translation. What do I do?
Report it straight from the drill where you saw it. The report goes into the same queue the curators review.
Can I help with a language, or ask for a new one?
Yes. Write to curate@galaxyglot.com to offer help or ask for a language that is not on the map yet.
Emails from us
How do I know an email really came from Galaxyglot?
We only email you when you ask for something, such as a password reset link from the sign-in page. We never ask for your password, payment details or any other information by email. A real Galaxyglot email:
- comes from one of the addresses the checker below accepts,
- only links to https://galaxyglot.com (check where a link goes before you click it), and
- never asks you to reply with anything.
The sender's name and address can be faked, so a matching address alone is not proof. If anything about an email feels off, don't click it: open galaxyglot.com yourself and sign in from there.
